Statutory Redundancy Rise
From 6 April 2016, the cap on weekly pay, taken into account when calculating statutory redundancy and the basic award for an unfair dismissal claim, will increase from £475 to £479.
The increase will apply to an employee dismissed on or after 6 April 2016, with 2 years’ service or more.
This increases the maximum award for statutory redundancy and the basic award for unfair dismissal from £14,250 to £14,370.
Freeze for Statutory Pay Rates
This year we will not see the usual rise in a range of statutory pay rates, including statutory maternity pay, sick pay, paternity pay, shared parental leave pay or statutory adoption pay.
The rate for statutory maternity pay, paternity pay, adoption pay and shared parental leave pay will remain at £139.58 per week or 90% of the employee’s weekly wage, whichever is the lower.
Statutory sick pay will remain at £88.45 per week.
Employment Tribunal Fees Update
Unison are to continue their legal battle against the introduction of the Employment Tribunal fees. The Supreme Court have now granted Unison permission to appeal against the Court of Appeal’s decision to reject Unison’s judicial review on the matter.
