Multiple Myeloma Chari-Tea party
On 29th March we had a lovely Indian themed party. Lots of great Gujarati food, Masala tea and cakes made by Janet Thornton from A Bit of a Do. Have a look at our pictures:
Cathedral Archer Project
On 20 March I slept outside Sheffield Cathedral to raise funds for the Cathedral Archer project. I was with a number of others who had volunteered. Now, I’m not the camping type and to sleep out on a bit of cardboard and a sleeping bag was a big challenge for me. I felt scared, even amongst a group of friends who had joined me. Every noise I heard, and believe me, there is a lot of noise in the centre of Sheffield pretty much throughout the night, made me fear for my safety. I couldn’t get into a comfortable position at all, I needed a visit to the little girls’ room but I daren’t get up alone. So, I stuck it out as long as I could and then made my way into the Cathedral for some shelter and stayed there until the others woke up.
This was one night only, I knew it was going to end, I knew I was doing it for a good cause and I knew I would tuck into a nice breakfast and catch up on my sleep in my nice warm bed.
What struck me about the experience and indeed has stayed with me since, is the realisation that this is everyday life for many people. Imagine if you had to spend all day killing time on the streets. Is it any wonder that alcohol and drugs become part of the way of life for many?
I’m really glad I did this. Not just because we raised some money, but because it altered the way I look at people who find themselves on the streets.
