Here’s some information about the wonderful work undertaken by the Really NEET project:
Sophie Maxwell (pictured above) is the founder of the Really NEET project, a not for profit social enterprise that supports schools and colleges to help engage some of the hardest to reach young people in society. There are many reasons that a young person may have found themselves in a challenging situation, such as becoming homeless or a victim of some terrible personal calamity. Many of the project’s students have stated that Really NEET positively made a tremendous impact on their lives:
‘It’s like coming home, but more stable, and doesn’t go anywhere!’
‘I was facing prison time, living on the streets and thinking about suicide. I confided in the tutors about my problems and they seem genuine and honest people also they are really approachable. They gave me the best advice and also attended court with me to give me moral and emotional support through the whole thing, helped me through a rough time and helped me not commit suicide.’
‘If it wasn’t for Really NEET I would definitely be in a life of crime or probably be in prison. Everything I achieve I achieve from now is thanks to Really NEET College.’
The project currently provides opportunities for around a hundred young people in Sheffield, and it is now asking for support from local businesses that are willing to invest in young people. It feels that the work it does is vital to the health of the local community and it needs the help of local businesses to continue helping young people.
We are honoured to support Really NEET and its wonderful work, and call on other businesses to offer their support too.
