Your business must be registered in England and your employees must be doing work which they cannot do from home.
Around 1 in 3 individuals with COVID-19 do not display symptoms. Opening testing up to catch those showing no symptoms will help to find positive cases earlier and to break hidden chains of transmission. These tests are not for use on people with symptoms, they must go for a personal test.
The tests are easy to use and give results in 30 minutes. Those who test positive must immediately self-isolate to avoid passing the virus on to others.
The test kit is a hand-held device with an absorbent pad at one end and a reading window at the other. Inside the device is a strip of test paper that changes colour in the presence of COVID-19 proteins (antigens).
Should you ask employees to take the test?
Whilst the test are available for employers, not all employers will want their employees to take the test and many will have questions about whether an employee can be forced to take a test.
Your existing drug and alcohol testing policy is unlikely to be sufficient and you may need a testing policy.
