Why a Change Management Programme can transform your Company Culture.
What is change management?
Change management is a systematic approach to dealing with change both from the perspective of an organisation and the individual.
A somewhat ambiguous term, change management has at least three different aspects, including;
- Adapting to change
- Controlling change
- Effecting change.
A proactive approach to dealing with change is at the core of all three aspects. For an organisation, change management means defining and implementing procedures and/or technologies to deal with changes in the business environment and to profit from changing opportunities.
Why do organisations need to change?
There are many things that prompt change within an organisation, some positive some negative. Some of these include:
- Challenges of growth, especially global markets
- Economic downturns and tougher trading conditions
- Changes in strategy
- Technological changes
- Competitive pressures, including mergers and acquisitions
- Customer pressure, particularly shifting markets
- Learning new organisation behaviours and skills
- Government legislation/initiatives
Why is it important to manage change effectively?
Failure to introduce effective change can have a high impact upon an organisation and should be avoided.
Issues relating to poor change management could be but are not limited to a loss of market position, removal of senior management, loss of stakeholder credibility, loss of key employees, and reduction in engagement.
Done properly change can have a positive impact upon the performance of your business and the outlook of your employees.
