About this webinar

As predicted, the country has woken to a ‘Labour Landslide’ with the largest majority seen in years. With this change of Government comes a significant shake-up of employment rights. The Labour manifesto presents a ‘new deal for working people,’ promising enhanced rights for individuals in the workplace and stricter obligations for employers, aiming to encourage workforce participation.

We invite you to join our free upcoming webinar, where we will dive into the proposed changes and discuss their potential impact on your business’s HR policies.

Key Topics We’ll Cover:

1. Unfair Dismissal and Other Day One Rights
  • Introduction of day-one rights to unfair dismissal, subject to probationary periods.
  • Expanded rights to request flexible working, sick pay, and parental leave from day one.
2. Zero Hours Contracts
  • Ban on exploitative zero-hours contracts and the introduction of fair work hours agreements.
3. Industrial Action
  • Reversal of recent changes under the Trade Union Act 2016.
  • Easier recognition for unions and new ‘Fair Pay Agreement’ for the Adult Social Care Sector.
4. Reporting Requirements for Larger Employers
  • Mandatory menopause action plans and ethnicity and disability pay gap reports for employers with over 250 employees.
5. Family-Friendly Measures and the Right to ‘Switch Off’
  • Strengthened rights for pregnant women and new rights to bereavement leave and to ‘switch off’ when remote working.
6. Fire and Rehire Practices
  • Stricter regulations making ‘fire and rehire’ practices more difficult.
7. Introduction of a Race Equality Act
  • New race equal pay claims and strengthened dual discrimination protection.
8. Collective Consultation
  • Changes to collective redundancy consultations impacting larger businesses.
9. Changes Outside of the Workplace
  • Altered national minimum wage criteria and a single enforcement body for workers’ rights.
10. Employment Status
  • Consultation on moving towards a single-worker status, encompassing all but the genuinely self-employed.
11. Extended Time Limits for Tribunal Claims
  • Extension of time limits for bringing claims to employment tribunals from 3 months to 6 months.

What This Means for You:

While these laws will not change immediately, the substantial majority won by Labour suggests minimal resistance to the new legislation. Key aspects of the manifesto are expected to be enacted within the first 100 days of government, giving businesses limited time to update their practices and understand new obligations.
