This course will explore the skills you need to realise your team’s potential to ensure they perform at their best. It’ll address the fundamentals of how to be a good people manager and the basic practical techniques to increase your communication, motivation, and delegation skills.
The programme will reinforce the importance and need for performance management and identify how to boost engagement and empower your team to add maximum value to your organisation.

Objectives:
- define and explain the role of the manager and/or leader;
- understand what delegation is and when and how to delegate;
- explore management styles and what works best for your business and those you work with;
- explore emotional responses to change and how to manage them;
- explore and understand active listening and questioning skills;
- research motivational theories and recognise that people are motivated in different ways;
- identify how to increase engagement through the drivers of skill, independence, and purpose;
- define and explain performance management, the process and models that can be used; and
- explore and understand behaviour patterns.

If you are new to people management, aspiring to be a manager, or looking to further develop your capability, look no further. This course will provide you with knowledge of good management practice and the fundamental techniques of how to encourage and drive performance within your team.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- delegate tasks effectively, knowing the strengthens and weaknesses of your team;
- implement your own management style to suit the organisation and its employees;
- apply different performance management methods depending on the situation;
- understand what motivates individuals, and how this may differ from one person to another;
- demonstrate effective communication; and
- appropriately manage emotional situations.
Course Structure
The course can be delivered:
- over a 3-week period, consisting of 3 half days; or
- 1 full day.
This learning can be in person or virtual via Zoom.
It is estimated that you will be required to undertake 6 hours of self-directed learning throughout the duration of this course. The sessions are interactive, with peer-to-peer learning to allow you to think practically about how to apply what you have learnt.
The delivery of the course has been spaced out to help you retain and apply practices into your working environment.
You will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
